More About Us
Trufflemusik was founded in by Elizabeth Myers and Paula Hochhalter. Both are veteran Los Angeles studio musicians who discovered they were both “Brahms freaks.” One thing led to another, and they found themselves performing many of their own new arrangements of piano masterworks with cello added. “It was just a natural fit,” says Hochhalter.
Beginning with “A Sweet of Beethoven”, Trufflemusik has set about to reimagine what would happen if such piano masterworks added cello to the mix of Piano Sonata #26 in A-flat Major. Myers says that “….the introduction of the cello to such pieces only makes them better, becoming richer and more resonant.” Audience members have often commented that they feel the cello parts were part of the original scores. “These renditions are very beautiful. Liz and Paula play with such sou!," says composer Nan Schwartz. "The essence of Beethoven comes through loud and clear."
They have now followed up their debut work with the new release “A Sweet of Brahms” which explores the last works of Johannes Brahms. Scheduled for release on June 15, 2020, the 40 minute album presents Opus 117’s 3 Intermezzi and Opus 118’s 6 Klavierstücke (Piano Pieces.) These were the next to the last compositions that Brahms ever composed and represent a time in his life when he was “only writing for himself.” Perhaps this is the reason that these works have been called “sublimely introspective.’
